The entire focus of education today is now learner, based on the exploration, extension of thinking, experiences, application and understanding. TFA teachers are merely facilitators and guides. Thinking Routines, problem solving techniques, POIs or Programme of Inquiry, sharing views on current affairs/news...form an integral part of the curriculum. This empowers children with skills required to be curious, to question, to think creatively, to effectively apply new knowledge in many different contexts, thereby truly learning, rather than memorising by rote.

The TFA programme includes:

Thinking routines

  • DeBono exercises (for lateral thinking)
  • KWL (what I Know-what I Want to know-what I Learnt)
  • CEC (Connect-Extend-Challenge)
  • Mind maps
  • Word Webs, inter alia

Programmes of inquiry (proposed topics)

  • Nursery (Doggie-Tree-Me-to understand and respect differences)
  • Junior KG (Clothing & Transport, Life under the sea-to understand differences, classification and making choices)
  • Senior KG (Water, Penguin, Need for Rules-to understand changing states & use of everyday items, adaptation and importance of rules)

This year, TFA has taken part in the British Council-ISA programme. ISA stands for International School Awards. Students, all the way from Nursery to Senior KG are engaged in the ISA project exploring different topics of 5 different countries which will continue throughout the year.
