Junior KG children went to the Sayaji Garden for their fieldtrip on 18th and 19th of June’19. Children had fun playing cricket and on the play equipment.
Celebrations bring people together, add colour to life, bring unity in diversity and fun in learning. Festivals are interspersed through the year-long curriculum and include – religious festivals, cultural events, festivals of historical and national importance, birth anniversaries of important personalities & important events from across the world. Children learn to celebrate the day & date, the associated food & attire, enact the related story, relive the event and also learn art n craft activities for the same. Most importantly they learn to celebrate LIFE!
Amidst academic and co curricular activities and hectic schedules, each student and teacher have their eyes focused on one event – “The Graduation Day” in the academic calendar. The beams of laughter, the tears of sorrow, the hard work, appreciation and then the final countdown begins for this most awaited day. Children stand proud of a new beginning, as our little ones move forward from Kindergarten to Grade One. These little ones that are receiving their first diplomas will be our future graduates, moving forward to yet another new beginning in the different chapters of their lives. We wish ‘The Young Graduates – “May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May song birds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue.”
Cooking with children in schools promotes the lifetime skill of healthy cooking starting at a young age. Children learn lifetime skills through practicing basic math skills such as counting, weighing, measuring, tracking time; they also gain social skills by working together and communicating in the kitchen. Cooking in schools can build positive memories that promote future healthy, enjoyable cooking elsewhere. Looking at the benefits of cooking, Children in our school too experience the joy of cooking by making corn chat, fruit chat, healthy lemon juice, vegetable grilled sandwich, bhel making.
Math Cracker is an in house event organized for Senior KG children. Pre Math and Math concepts are included for the preliminary round. Children from each section are selected and they lead a team of 6 children for the final round. The final round has visual, written and board games.
Senior KG children went for fieldtrips to The Baroda Museum, Church, Decathlon, Dental Museum, Sindrot, D’Mart & Spencers’.
Senior KG children went to The Baroda Museum as a part of ISA Project – Passport to the World and gained knowledge and learnt about the history of different countries.
Senior KG children visited the church and saw the Christmas decoration, listened to the story of the birth of Jesus and carols.
Senior KG children went to Decathlon and understood the importance of sports and explored different games.
As a part of POI on water – sources and uses of water, children visited Sindrot and saw the river and on their way they also saw canal, well, hand pump, overhead tanks on the houses.
To enhance reading and English language children went to these stores. Teachers explained them reading the price, manufacturing and expiry date, weight, nutritional value of the product.
Field trips are a way of enhancing classroom learning by making real world connections. The field trips give students the opportunity to observe a particular environment that enables first-hand experience of what they are learning. Firsthand experience can provide children with information and a level of understanding that adds elements of realism to their play, and enriches their overall learning. Nursery children went for their field trip to Birds’ Aviary, Post Office, Spencers’ and Sayaji Garden Zoo.
If children experience the amazing-ness; that is nature and our natural world when they are little, they will be willing and committed to protect it when they are older. So, during the field trip to birds’ aviary Teachers discussed and explained traits of birds and their adaptations, how birds fly, their eating habits and described why birds are important.
The children and teachers were welcomed warmly by the staff at the Post- office. They were taken around to see how letters are collected, segregated, stamped and then stored for the postmen to collect. It was altogether a great learning experience especially in these times of email & fax. Visiting a post-office was something out-of-the-ordinary for the children although “post” is an ancient form of communication!
Children had a glance of the various counters like those selling stamps, envelopes, postcards etc. Later the children posted envelopes that they had prepared in class by drawing themselves.
To help the students understand that vegetables and fruits are an important component of a healthy diet. Both vegetables and fruit contain essential nutrients that are important for their health, growth and development. Students were told the importance of each vegetable and fruit, its colour, shape and size and its nutrient value.
Visit to zoo gives incredible learning opportunities, sparks curiosity, helps to explore and discover, brings about environmental awareness and is a great educational tool. Children observed and learned about different animal species, their habitat and behaviour.
In TFA, fieldtrips were organized in order to making learning more visible. Some of the fieldtrips were visit to the Birds’ Aviary, Fire Station, Plant Nursery, Westside and Sayaji Garden Zoo.
Bird encounters make it easy to learn fun facts about birds by observing, colour, eating habits, size, and feathers. J r. KG children went for their field trip to Sayaji Garden Birds’ Aviary and saw different species of birds.
Junior KG children visited the Vadi Wadi fire station to extend their knowledge of firefighters. They got a hands on-experience on fire safety and the very important community helper- the fire fighter. The fire fighters showed them the different equipment used by them and demonstrated the use of a fire extinguisher.
Junior KG children went to Roses Plant Nursery. The objective of the activity was to reinforce the topic-plants and to inculcate the love for the environment and to relish the beauty of nature. Teachers showed different types of Plants, explained the various parts of the plants and their uses. They were also shown different medicinal plants like Tulsi, Turmeric etc. The children had a wonderful learning experience and were full of excitement to see such different species of plants. They were also told about the importance of plants in our lives and why we should not cut trees. The trip was a great success and a memorable experience for the little ones.
Junior KG had their Program of Inquiry on Clothing. They went to Westside to explore and see different types of clothes worn in different seasons and occasions, their textures and design. It is important that children recognize the suitability of clothing in various situations.
Junior KG children’s visit to zoo, enhanced their curiosity, knowledge about animals, characteristics, habitat, size, colour, and conservation of wild life.
Children celebrated the 70th Republic Day of India on 25th January. Children learnt about the national symbols, constitution and sang national songs and dance performances.
